Mikhail Gorbachev has proved to be one of the most significant figures of the Twentieth Century. Whilst President of the USSR his reforms of Perestroika and Glasnost paved the way for the fall of Communism, the reintroduction of democracy to Eastern Europe and the end of the Cold War.
